The Messerschmitt Me 262 B-1/U1 “Nachtjäger” – pictured here on the Eastern Front in 1945. Though the world’s first operational jet fighter was a massive breakthrough, most of them saw incredibly limited action due to a lack of fuel and supplies (brought on by the perpetual Allied aerial bombardment). This version is equipped with an early form of radar to accommodate nighttime missions.
